TD rolls out Easy Trade app to lower barriers for new self-directed investors

TD is expanding its push into the DIY investing space with the launch of a new mobile trading platform designed to simplify the experience for first-time investors.

The bank’s direct investing arm has introduced the TD Easy Trade app, positioning it as an accessible entry point for Canadians who may be hesitant to start investing due to perceived complexity or cost barriers.

The app arrives as retail participation in markets continues to rise, with TD highlighting that many Canadians still feel unprepared to begin investing, often citing a lack of experience or sufficient funds as key obstacles.

To address those concerns, the platform removes several traditional hurdles. TD Easy Trade offers no minimum account balance and no monthly maintenance fees, alongside a structure that includes 100 commission-free stock trades per year and full access to TD ETFs.

The app also supports U.S.-dollar accounts, helping investors avoid repeated currency conversion costs when trading U.S. securities, and provides real-time market data, watchlists, and portfolio tracking tools.

Education is a central component of the offering. Users have access to integrated tutorials and investing resources within the platform, along with support from licensed investment representatives.

TD says the app is built with a simplified interface aimed at reducing friction for users who may be new to markets, while still offering core functionality such as stock and ETF trading, goal-setting tools, and customizable investment plans.

The launch reflects a broader shift among financial institutions to capture a new generation of investors who prefer mobile-first platforms and lower-cost entry points into capital markets.
