Two portfolio managers exit their roles as new appointments take effect
Amit Shah will take over as lead portfolio manager for the IA Clarington QV Canadian Small Cap Fund and IA Clarington QV Canadian Small Cap Class after Steven Kim announced his departure from QV Investors, effective July 3.
Shah, who spent the past five years working alongside Kim on the small-cap strategy, assumes the role immediately.
He will manage the funds with Derek Nichol, on the team for over seven years, and Mathew Hermary, chief investment officer at QV Investors.
Shah has over a decade of investment experience, joining QV Investors in 2021 after five years as an equity analyst at a Calgary-based asset manager.
Nichol, also a CFA charterholder with over a decade of experience, joined QV Investors in 2018 from a Calgary-based investment management firm, where he focused on equity analysis and portfolio support.
Kim will continue working with the team through his July 3 departure to support the handover.
Hermary said both managers have been "integral" to the small-cap strategy and have an intimate understanding of QV's investment approach, ensuring continuity in fund management.
The funds' investment objective, risk rating, and strategy remain unchanged.
They were formerly known as IA Clarington Canadian Small Cap Fund and IA Clarington Canadian Small Cap Class before a name change took effect June 16, 2025.
At the same time, Sébastien Mc Mahon is stepping away from day-to-day fund management following his appointment as chief economist at iA Financial Group.
iA Clarington Investments has removed Mc Mahon as a portfolio manager on 33 funds run by the iA Global Asset Management Asset Allocation team.
The team, led by Tej Rai, managing director of asset allocation, and Alex Bellefleur, senior vice-president and head of research, retains management of the affected funds.
The funds span fixed income, Canadian and global equity, balanced, and socially responsible investment mandates across the Elite, IA Clarington, IA Wealth, and Inhance product lines.
According to the company, their investment objectives, risk ratings, and strategies remain unchanged.
In his new role, Mc Mahon will focus on forward-looking research, analysis, and media engagement for the broader iA Financial Group organisation.
iA Clarington said he will remain connected to the Asset Allocation team.
iA Clarington president and CEO Catherine Milum said he will continue providing perspective and analysis, with the asset allocation team ensuring continuity for investors.
