Wealth Professional spotlighted firm’s leadership months before the executive appointments took effect

Hamilton Capital Partners Inc. has appointed Jennifer Mersereau and Patrick Sommerville as co-chief executive officers, effective July 1.
Mersereau will also retain the title of co-founder.
Their promotions follow their appointment as co-presidents in July 2024.
Executive chairman and co-founder Robert Wessel stated, “Almost exactly a year ago, [Mersereau] and [Sommerville] were promoted to co-presidents.”
He said the firm’s AUM grew by 70 percent in fiscal 2025 to more than $8.7bn, supported by inflows exceeding $3.0bn.
The product lineup expanded by 50 percent to 30 ETFs, with consecutive launches contributing to that growth.
Wessel said the firm’s leadership change marks a milestone in its operational development.
In a November 2024 article by Wealth Professional, Mersereau and Sommerville discussed their roles as co-presidents after Hamilton ETFs was named an Excellence Awardee for ETF Provider of the Year at the 10th Annual WP Awards.
The firm had more than doubled its assets under management in 2023, rising from $1.8bn to $3.8bn. Sommerville attributed the growth to their suite of yield Maximizer ETFs, which used covered call strategies to help investors generate income.
He stated, “We’ve built these strategies with an income-first approach, focusing on what investors need as demographics shift toward higher demand for monthly income.”
Mersereau said, “Our team is exceptional. We’ve expanded significantly, and it’s been a total team effort. Everyone contributes, from the creation of innovative strategies to building relationships with advisors.”
Mersereau co-founded Hamilton ETFs in 2009 and has nearly 30 years of experience in financial services.
Prior to founding the firm, she worked with Wessel at the dealer arm of a Big-6 Canadian bank, where she assisted in equity research and later co-managed a long-short strategy focused on financial services stocks. She began her career at a Canadian insurance company.
Sommerville joined Hamilton ETFs in 2013 and has worked in wealth management for more than 20 years, including in senior sales and marketing roles.
He was most recently co-president.
According to the firm, Mersereau and Sommerville have directed its strategy, overseen expansion, and maintained its internal culture.
Hamilton ETFs also appointed Peter Jelley as an independent member of its board of directors, effective April 22.
Jelley is president and chief executive officer of Bulldog Capital Partners Inc., with more than 25 years of experience in investment banking and private equity.
He is chair of the Board at Andlauer Healthcare Group and holds board positions with several private companies.
His appointment follows the death of Robert Brooks, an original board member, in November 2024.
