FP Canada has announced several changes to its Board of Directors, naming new leadership and welcoming new members to guide the organization through its 2025–2026 mandate.

Teresa Black Hughes has been appointed chair of the FP Canada Board of Directors, succeeding Ronald Harvey, who will now serve as past chair. Christopher Dewdney has been named vice chair. Additionally, Paul Lalonde and Jeff Cormier are joining the board, while Yves L. Giroux is departing after six years of service.

Black Hughes, who has served on the board since 2020 and was previously vice chair, is a financial advisor and portfolio manager at RGF Integrated Wealth Management based in Vancouver, B.C. She brings to her new role more than 35 years of experience in financial services, a news release noted.

Dewdney, founder of Toronto-based financial planning firm Dewdney & Co., has been practicing for more than 20 years and has served on the board since 2021.

Joining them are Lalonde and Cormier, both of whom bring significant leadership and planning expertise. Lalonde is head of BMO Wealth Planning, Trust and Insurance Advisory Services, and has over two decades of experience in wealth management. Cormier, president of group financier Cormier Wealth Management, has held his position since 2009 and earned his Certified Financial Planner® (CFP) designation in 2008.

“Volunteers who possess high levels of relevant knowledge and expertise are critical to the success of FP Canada’s board,” said Tashia Batstone, FP Canada president and CEO. “Paul and Jeff bring unique perspectives to their new roles as Board members, which are informed by their past and ongoing achievements in financial services as well as their many strengths as leaders in the industry.”

As part of the transition, Harvey will continue to support the board in an advisory capacity. Meanwhile, Giroux concludes his term, having served since 2019.

“Ron and Yves have made invaluable contributions to the board,” said Black Hughes. “Their insights, which were greatly admired by their fellow board members, have been a testament to their ongoing dedication to the financial planning profession.”

Established in 1995, FP Canada is a national not-for-profit organization focused on advancing professional financial planning and improving Canadians’ financial wellness.
