Investment professionals will be able to attain a new global certificate in ESG investing which has been launched this week by the CFA Institute.

It will be marketed at financial hubs worldwide and represents a new global qualification for ESG in investment management with the aim of boosting market integrity with a benchmark skill level for investment professionals.

In a CFA Institute survey, 76% of institutional investors and 69% of retail investors declared an interest in ESG investing. The institute hopes the new certificate will enable the industry to evolve by making ESG central to investment decisions, contributing to a more holistic financial analysis.

“We are seeing a real acceleration of interest in ESG investing – a major development that will shape the future of finance – while increased demand from clients and investment management firms has fueled the need for education,” said Margaret Franklin, CFA, president and CEO of CFA Institute. “This Certificate is the first of its kind to be made available globally, and will equip practitioners with foundational knowledge and competencies, enabling them to better serve the needs of their clients and contribute to building trust within the industry.”

The Certificate in ESG Investing can be achieved through around 130 hours of self-study followed by an exam lasting almost 2.5 hours, either at a testing centre or online where available.
