Accomplished Québécoise professional will serve key role in legal and regulatory matters

New executive vice president for institutional fund manager
Kim Thomassin has been announced as Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec’s new executive president for legal affairs and secretariat.

In her new role, Thomassin will monitor and manage all of la Caisse’s legal and regulatory activities, which include the legal and governance structures underpinning investments. She will be part of the company’s executive committee, serving a key role in supporting la Caisse’s global expansion through continued enhancement of the team’s international expertise.

“Kim Thomassin is a true leader,” said CDPQ President and CEO Michael Sabia, to whom Thomassin will be reporting. “Her considerable experience as a project finance and M&A lawyer, extensive network and recognized talent in building solid business relationships will be key assets for la Caisse as it implements its strategy in all the markets where it is present.”

Prior to her appointment, Thomassin acted as national client leader and managing partner of the Quebec region for McCarthy Tétrault LLP. She spent her 17 years at the firm rotating among various important positions, focusing on project financing and acquisitions in the energy and infrastructure industries.

Thomassin has also received several accolades. She was honored with the Quebec National Assembly Medal in 2016 in recognition of her commitment to initiatives that support for women’s professional advancement. Her leadership has earned her various other distinctions such as the Christine Tourigny Award Merit, the title of Advocatus Emeritus by the Barreau du Québec, and the Lexpert Zenith Award as a "Leading Woman Lawyer." In 2012, she was included on the Women’s Executive Network’s list of Canada’s most powerful women.

Thomassin will take up her position on Jan. 30.
