Leader takes on new wealth and insurance strategy role at expanding global investment firm
Roy Gori, who stepped down as president and CEO of Manulife in 2025, has taken on a senior advisor position with global investment firm KKR.
His new mandate covers strategic opportunities spanning insurance, wealth management, banking and distribution, with particular emphasis on Asia Pacific and other international markets. He will work alongside KKR's leadership and deal teams, lending his perspective on regulatory landscapes, distribution partnerships and cross-border growth.
Joe Bae and Scott Nuttall, who serve as co-CEOs of KKR, welcomed the appointment. "Roy is one of the most respected leaders in financial services, with decades of experience building and growing businesses across Asia Pacific and internationally. We look forward to working with him as we continue to expand our global platform."
Billy Butcher and Manu Sareen, co-CEOs of Global Atlantic, KKR's insurance arm, pointed to Gori's track record as a natural fit for the firm's ambitions.
"Roy's deep expertise in insurance, wealth management, and distribution, combined with his extensive experience across Asia Pacific and globally, will provide valuable strategic perspective as KKR continues to expand its global financial services platform and pursue new partnership and growth opportunities."
Career background
Gori spent more than 30 years across insurance, wealth management and retail banking in Asia Pacific, North America and other global markets.
His six-plus years running Manulife followed a stint leading Manulife Asia, where he had responsibility for operations spanning a dozen markets and pushed the company's regional footprint forward. His career started at Citibank in 1989, where he eventually took charge of the bank's Asia Pacific retail division, encompassing both insurance and wealth management.
"I am excited to join KKR at a time of tremendous opportunity for the firm in Asia Pacific and globally. KKR has built a world-class global asset management platform, and the firm's growing international presence speaks to the scale of the opportunity ahead. I look forward to working with KKR's leadership and investment teams to help identify and advance opportunities across global financial services, including insurance, wealth management, banking, and distribution."
An Australian by birth, Gori holds a Bachelor of Economics and Finance from the University of New South Wales along with an MBA from the University of Technology, Sydney. Over his career he has been based in Sydney, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Toronto.
