Enbridge to build $900m solar project to power Meta data centres

Enbridge Inc. has made a final investment decision to proceed with the Clear Fork Solar Project, a 600-megawatt utility-scale solar facility in Texas aimed at supporting Meta Platforms, Inc.’s data centre operations with 100% renewable energy.

Located near San Antonio, the project is currently under construction and is expected to come online by the summer of 2027. Enbridge estimates the project will cost approximately US$900 million and anticipates that it will begin contributing to cash flow and earnings per share upon completion.

Meta has signed a long-term power purchase agreement to buy the full output of the solar project, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to operating with clean energy. “We are thrilled to partner with Enbridge to bring new renewable energy to Texas,” said Urvi Parekh, Head of Global Energy at Meta.

“Clear Fork demonstrates the growing demand for renewable power across North America from blue-chip companies engaged in tech and data centres,” said Matthew Akman, Enbridge’s EVP of corporate strategy and president of power.

He added that the project exemplifies Enbridge’s low-risk commercial approach and continued expansion into clean energy, backed by its operational and financial capabilities.

The Clear Fork project is part of Enbridge’s wider strategy to build out its renewables portfolio, which includes wind, solar, and emerging technologies such as hydrogen and carbon capture.

Enbridge, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, is one of North America’s leading energy infrastructure firms. Its shares are listed on both the Toronto and New York stock exchanges under the ticker “ENB.”

The company says the project aligns with its goals to provide secure, affordable energy while advancing toward net-zero emissions.
