Mark Hamlin, Vice-President, Portfolio Manager, Mackenzie Investments

The past year was challenging for anyone relying on fixed income investments. After a long period of low interest rates that saw conservative investors struggling to keep up with inflation, 2022 was then dominated by aggressive rising interest rates. But could there be good news on the horizon? Join us to learn what Konstantin Boehmer and Mark Hamlin of Mackenzie Investments’ Fixed Income team are forecasting for 2023 and beyond.

Northcape Capital – Canada Life Pathways Emerging Markets Equity Fund
May 11 – 4 to 5 p.m. ET

Speaker:
Patrick Russel, Portfolio Manager, Director, Northcape Capital

Emerging markets (EM) have had their share of hurdles in 2022. One of these happened late in the year, when the U.S. heavily restricted semiconductor exports to China. The ban may stifle the development of China’s semiconductor industry and could lead to a further rift between the two countries.

But what does the EM landscape look like in the year ahead? Patrick Russel from Northcape Capital will dive further into the hurdles EM saw in 2022 and the opportunities that may lie in 2023. He’ll also discuss the key to successfully navigating EM in the current global economic landscape. As risk profiles vary across countries, sectors and companies, it takes expertise and active management to find the right opportunities for your clients.

GWL Realty Advisors – Canada Life Real Estate Fund
June 8 – 1 to 2 p.m. ET

Speakers:
Steve Marino, Senior Vice-President, GWL Realty Advisors
Craig England, Vice-President, Portfolio Management, GWL Realty Advisors

The Canadian real estate market saw its largest ever growth in total numbers in 2022. Join to hear from GWL Realty Advisors’ Steve Marino and Craig England, who’ll discuss some of the factors that helped housing prices to soar and home ownership affordability to drop. These included Canada’s limited housing supply, aggressive immigration targets and rising interest rates. They’ll also explain how strong fundamentals in both the industrial and multi-family asset classes have created tailwinds for rental rate growth. Steve and Craig will then provide their real estate market outlook and areas of growth in 2023.
