New survey highlights how important AI has become to business in 2025

The use of artificial intelligence in Canadian organizations has become so important that it now ranks alongside cybersecurity as an investment priority.
That’s the key finding of a survey of 424 Canadian IT decision makers by Amazon Web Services (AWS) which found that more than 85% of respondents are running experiments with generative AI, but that does not mean it’s use is considered as an experiment but as a strategic imperative for competitive advantage.
With the OSC recently publishing a report on the risks of AI adoption by Canadian public companies and the need for disclosures to ensure investors are aware of exposure to the fast-growing technology, the AWS report shows that most firms (90%) are putting guidelines and guardrails in place to ensure AI is used responsibly.
The AWS survey reveals that AI is now considered a key part of a modern digital strategy and 42% of respondents are prioritizing budgets to the technology with 34% prioritizing cyber security solutions.
More than half of the organizations included in the survey have appointed a dedicated Chief AI Officer and another 23% expect to do so by 2026. However, a talent gap exists and 70% of respondents plan to upskill their workforce, although nine in ten do not have a formal change management strategy to ready their businesses for AI transformation.
