SLC Management announces new chief operating officer for fixed income

The institutional fixed income and alternative asset manager SLC Management, with a market cap of C$355 billion (US$262 billion), is happy to reveal that Candace Shaw, Senior Managing Director and Deputy Chief Investment Officer, has been appointed Chief Operating Officer, SLC Fixed Income, beginning immediately.

"As SLC Fixed Income continues to evolve, improving our foundational processes is imperative to the future growth of our business," said Steve Peacher, President, SLC Management. "This appointment allows us to capitalize on Candy's deep knowledge and experience within the firm, and under her leadership, we will continue to enhance our fixed income operating model to better serve the needs of our growing client base."

Shaw has over 30 years of expertise in private and public fixed income, portfolio management, and credit risk management in top positions at SLC Management and the company's parent, Sun Life. Shaw managed one of the biggest private fixed income portfolios in North America while serving as Portfolio Manager and Head of Private Fixed Income at SLC Management prior to her appointment in 2020. Along with managing risk for all credit assets, including private fixed income investments, she was also a key player in this process.

Shaw, who served as SLC Management's portfolio manager and head of private fixed income, was promoted to deputy CIO in 2020. Additionally, she was essential in managing the risk associated with all credit assets, including private fixed income investments. Furthermore, Shaw has played a crucial role in fostering and establishing a culture of inclusion and diversity at SLC Management and throughout the asset management sector.

She presently works as the Executive Sponsor for InvestHer, an employee-led network whose goal is to support women's professional development within the asset management business, and heads SLC Management's Allies Acting for Change (AAFC).

Shaw graduated from Queen's University with a BA in Mathematics, an Honours BSc in chemistry, an MBA in finance in 1987, and a qualification as a Chartered Financial Analyst in 1991. She belongs to the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts and the Association of Investment Management and Research. She'll keep her position as deputy CIO and advance to COO.

Global institutional asset manager SLC Management provides conventional, non-conventional, and yield-oriented investment solutions in the public and private fixed income markets, as well as in the equity and debt markets for international real estate.
