History of Equitable Life of Canada

Equitable Life started out in 1920 under a slightly different name: The Ontario Equitable Life and Accident Insurance Company in 1920. Within its first year, it had over $7 million worth of insurance in-force, a record at that time.

During the Great Depression, the company launched an affordable family income policy to support Canadians during that difficult period.

In 1936, the company changed its name to The Equitable Life Insurance Company of Canada. Equitable Life of Canada has grown steadily over the years and is now one of Canada's largest mutual life insurance companies.
