TSX closes higher again as financial sector gains

After another day of volatile oil prices the Toronto Stock Exchange advanced again Thursday as the financial sector gained on bank earnings.

After another day of volatile oil prices the Toronto Stock Exchange advanced again Thursday as the financial sector gained on bank earnings. With Greece off the agenda for now Asia and Europe both saw gains with some good corporate results and, in Europe, growth in Spain and the UK economies along with a hold-steady in Germany’s unemployment rate. Economic data subdued Wall Street with jobless claims and inflation figures showing weakness south of the border.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index closed up 12.59 (0.08 per cent)

The NYSE closed lower (Nasdaq gained)

Oil is trending lower (Brent $60.47, WTI  $48.84 at 4.15pm)

Gold is trending lower.

The loonie is valued at U$0.79848 (4.15pm)
