The markets weren’t expecting the news but it was good for morale when it came; Canada’s merchandise trade deficit with the rest of the world narrowed in June to $476 million, down from $3.4 billion in May. Statistics Canada reported that exports increased by 6.3 per cent while imports declined by 0.5 per cent. Export volumes rose 4.8 per cent and prices 1.5 per cent. For imports, volumes declined 0.9 per cent while prices were up 0.3 per cent.
