ATB Financial announces Matt Evans will be the new head of wealth and investment management
ATB Financial has appointed Matt Evans as its new head of wealth and investment management, effective March 30.
In the role, he will lead ATB Financial’s wealth advisory, investment management and private banking functions, including BCV Asset Management Inc.
The organization describes Evans as bringing over 18 years of leadership and expertise in the wealth and investment management space, with a career “deeply rooted in Western Canada and complemented with national experience.”
Evans most recently served as senior vice-president for commercial banking and Private Banking 1859 in the Ontario region at National Bank of Canada from April 2025 to January 2026.
Before that, he was senior vice-president, enterprise strategy and integration executive at Canadian Western Bank from September 2024 to April 2025, after nearly five years in increasingly senior strategy and investor relations roles at the bank.
From 2020 to 2024, Evans was president and CEO of CWB Wealth Management, where he led the firm’s discretionary portfolio management, investment advisory and financial planning businesses.
Earlier in his career, he worked in investor relations and strategy at Canadian Western Bank, in business development at Adroit Investment Management and as an investment advisor at CIBC Wood Gundy.
ATB Financial president and CEO Chris Turchansky said Matt brings “strategic vision and deep industry expertise” that fit the firm’s goals.
ATB Financial said his experience will support its wealth management business.
Evans said the new mandate will end his roles at National Bank of Canada and CWB Financial Group and that he is “proud of the work we did for the clients, people and shareholders of CWB,” according to his LinkedIn post.
He called the CWB role “formative” and thanked several colleagues, including Chris Fowler, Carolyn Graham, FCPA, FCA, ICD.D, and Stephen Murphy, for their “leadership, mentorship and partnership over the years.”
Evans described National Bank as “a winning organization and the ideal successor for CWB's legacy of entrepreneurial growth” and said it “stands apart amongst Canada's DSIBs.”
He said leading the Ontario commercial and private banking team was “humbling” and wrote that he leaves “confident the region is in good hands,” according to the post.
Evans said “ATB Wealth has a long-standing reputation for putting clients first and fostering deep roots within the communities it serves” and that he is “honoured to be joining this talented team,” according to his LinkedIn post.
