Capital Group hires Standard Chartered tech chief as incoming CIO

Capital Group has named Guillermo Veiga as its chief information officer, with the technology executive set to start in November and relocate to California from Singapore.

He succeeds Marta Zarraga, who retires at the end of the year, according to the company's announcement, which describes Capital Group as the world's largest global active investment manager.

Rob Klausner, chief operating officer at Capital Group, said in the announcement that technology, data, and AI play an increasingly important role in how the firm serves clients globally and scales its business.

He cited Veiga's technology expertise, operational leadership, and experience leading large, complex organizations.

Veiga holds the role of group chief information and operations officer at Standard Chartered Bank, which his LinkedIn profile dates to June.

He spent the prior year as group chief information officer, starting in May 2025.

His profile states that he oversees technology across corporate and institutional banking, wealth, retail and business banking, and corporate functions, covering more than 50 markets and roughly 18,000 colleagues.

He led wealth, retail and business banking technology across 35 markets in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia from September 2023, before the group-level appointment.

The profile lists his priorities as cutting platform and application complexity by about 40 percent, embedding controls into delivery, and rolling out generative AI across software engineering.

It also lists savings of more than 100m over two years in the wealth, retail and business banking division, though the profile does not specify the currency.

At Banco Santander from October 2018 to October 2023, Veiga was chief technology and operating officer for wealth management and insurance across 12 countries.

The Aladdin platform from BlackRock was implemented across ten countries during COVID-19 under his remit, his profile notes, alongside cryptocurrency access for Swiss private banking clients.

He earlier held roles at Amazon Web Services and Cisco, the company's announcement says, and served on the boards of Santander units ISBAN, Geoban and Produban between June 2016 and July 2018.

Veiga said Capital Group's long-term commitment to its people and culture drew him, alongside the chance to lead during a period of global expansion as data and AI change ways of working, in the announcement.
