​Bumpy ride for shortened trading day

Trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange ended early for Christmas Eve after a few hours of highs and lows for the market.

Trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange ended early for Christmas Eve after a few hours of highs and lows for the market. With low volumes of trading providing little in the way of excitement it was the oil price that led the pack. Raw materials producers gained but that was offset by a decline in oil prices forcing losses for the energy sector. By the 1pm close though the market had balanced out and traders breathed a sigh of relief to have made it to the holidays with conditions slightly better than they have been in the last few weeks.

The S&P TSX Composite Index closed up 13.28 (0.09 per cent)

The NYSE closed flat

Oil is trending lower

Gold is trending lower

The loonie is up against the US dollar
