Skyelar joined Hemisphere Capital Management Inc. in 2015 and became a Partner and the Chief Compliance Officer in 2019. She holds a BA (Commerce, Organizations and Entrepreneurship) from the Ivy League institution Brown University where she played on the NCAA Division I Women’s Ice Hockey team. She also holds the Chartered Investment Manager designation and was registered as a Portfolio Manager – Advising Representative with the BC, AB, SK, MB and ON security commissions in 2018.  Sitting on the Investment Committee, Skyelar plays an integral role in the portfolio management and investment decision-making process. She is also involved in the performance analysis and reporting procedures at Hemisphere Capital Management Inc. She led the firm’s GIPS verification process in which historical composite returns were verified for the past 25 years.

A female portfolio manager is a rarity in this still male-dominated industry. Skyelar not only became a registered discretionary Portfolio Manager, but also an equity partner in an independent investment management firm before the age of 30.  Only a few months into her partnership, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and an unprecedented time in the markets and business world unfolded. She was able to adjust and adapt to the new investment environment while carefully handling client relationships. Her athletic background and education allow Skyelar to face adversity head on and successfully overcome it. She is the centerpiece of the Hemisphere Capital Management Inc.’s succession plan and will allow the firm to continue managing the assets of high-net-worth individuals and families with an exceptional level of service for years to come.

Skyelar is passionate about educating her clients, specifically female clients, who have typically taken a backseat to financial and investment decisions. She continues to create an environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and being involved in the conversation. Her natural leadership, keen business acumen, passion for capital markets and the strong belief that everyone should have the opportunity to improve their financial literacy and well-being, regardless of their level of wealth, will undoubtedly make her a leader in this industry.
