As an award winning wealth strategist in Canada at CIBC Private Wealth, Marvin is the Principal of The Schmidt Investment Group. Marvin leads the group’s investment strategy and due diligence team which develops holistic wealth management solutions and advanced planning strategies for each client. 

Marvin has 30 years of comprehensive experience across several areas, including portfolio management, risk management, alternative asset class strategies, business sales, taxation, succession planning, insurance, family legacy and continuity planning, private and public foundations, philanthropic consulting and institutional consulting. A strong believer in collaboration, Marvin brings together strategic professional partners across insurance, tax, legal and all areas of banking and wealth management to ensure optimal strategies are in place for each unique client.

Marvin holds the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation and is a member of the FP Canada Standards Council. The CFP certification is the industry gold standard in financial planning and provides assurance that the planner is committed to internationally-recognized professional standards of competence, ethics and practice as set and enforced by FP Canada. He also holds the Canadian and International Trust and Estate Practitioner designation (TEP) which formally identifies him as a qualified practitioner dealing with trusts and estates. He is a member of the Edmonton Chapter for the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and is also a member of the Edmonton Estate Planning Council

Educated at The Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania, Marvin earned his Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designation, one of the highest designations that can be attained by an investment consultant who assists high net worth clients and institutions. Marvin is a University of Alberta graduate from The Alberta School of Business.

In 2015, Marvin founded the only national public foundation of its kind in Canada, Expand Hope, and is currently Chair of the Board. In 2021, Marvin was invited to join the Council of Founders of imYEG, a partnership between the University of Alberta and Brass Dome Ventures Ltd. to increase commercialization of research driven innovations. Previously, Marvin served six years on the international board of directors for The Canadian Hunger Foundation, completing his term as Vice Chair of the board.

Marvin is married to Leah and they have three wonderful children. Together, they are active within their church and their children’s school. They enjoy travel and an active lifestyle. Marvin takes great joy in being the Head Coach for both his sons’ basketball teams.
