Why firm’s award takes pride of place

A Wealth Professional Awards winner reflects on his company’s big win ahead of this year’s glitzy, Oscar-style event

Why firm’s award takes pride of place

What’s the point of an award if you can’t put it front and centre so everyone can see it?

The partners at Polson Bourbonniere Derby Wealth Management left nothing to chance after they scooped The Franklin Templeton Investments Award for Best Independent Advisor Practice Office at last year’s Wealth Professional Awards.

Once the celebrations subsided, they got copies of the Wealth Professional Magazine edition hailing their success framed and placed at optimum locations around their Markham office.

Celebrating our industry successes in the wealth management industry

“We have one in each of our planner offices and we have a nice poster size one in our main lobby,” said Derek Polson, partner and certified financial planner.

“We also did an email blast, so we got some very good feedback [from our clients].”

After last year’s night of glory, the firm is weighing up whether to go for another trophy at this year’s glitzy awards night on May 31 at the Liberty Grand, Toronto. Of course, if someone else nominates them, that decision is taken out of their hands, but they’ll need to act fast with the February 23 deadline approaching.

For Polson and fellow partners Paul Bourbonniere and Michael Derby, last year’s recognition was a surprise after being left empty-handed in 2016. However, he said the Oscar-style event once again lived up to its billing, especially the silent auction segment. And he believes the award was just reward for the way the company puts its clients first.

He said: “We just feel like we are getting the recognition we deserve for treating our clients properly. It was very nice that we were recognised as an industry leader.”

He added: “I don’t get too hung up on what everybody else is doing, but if you are doing a good job for your clients and get recognised for it then that’s the winning battle.

“Everyone here was happy. We have seven planners and we definitely take that team approach, so everyone was pleased whether they were at the ceremony or not.”

There are 23 awards up for grabs on May 31 and it’s quick and easy to nominate someone, or yourself, before the February 23 deadline. So what are you waiting for? Simply log on to www.wpawards.ca and follow the links.
