Pier 21 Asset Management launches new emerging market fund

Pier 21 Asset Management has announced its new Pier 21 Global Emerging Markets Pool, a low-volatility Canadian-domiciled institutional investment fund. It is sub-advised by Northcape Capital in Australia.

The Pier 21 Global Emerging Markets Pool is a portfolio that includes no more than 40 of the highest-quality stocks that are exposed to emerging markets. Its investment process incorporates bottom-up fundamental research and top-down market and sovereign risk analysis. Since its inception, the fund has shown significant value-added with low volatility and strong downside protection.

The fund’s sub-advisor is Northcape Capital, an Australian equity boutique. Founded in 2005 and managing global emerging-markets equities since 2008, Northcape has $9.2 billion in assets under management, with US$1.2 billion in its global emerging markets strategy. Their emerging markets strategy outperformed its benchmark by 7.3% per year over an 8.5-year period ending on Dec. 31.

“We are committed to broaden our pooled funds offer and to bring best-in-class foreign investment management expertise to Canadian institutional investors,” said Pier 21 Asset Management President and CEO David Star.
