TSX lower as energy stocks fall

The week ended in familiar territory with concern over the continued supply glut pushing oil prices lower and taking energy stocks down.

The week ended in familiar territory with concern over the continued supply glut pushing oil prices lower and taking energy stocks down. The Toronto Stock Exchange ended lower as energy and financials weighed heavily. Asia and Europe both closed with gains but Wall Street also ended the day with losses due to the ever stronger US dollar and caution over next week’s meeting of the Fed which could bring firmer signals of a potential interest rate rise.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index closed down 39.22 (0.27 per cent)

The NYSE closed lower (the Dow was down 145.9)

Oil is trending lower (Brent $54.48, WTI $45.13 at 4.20pm)

Gold is trending higher

The loonie is valued at U$0.7824 (at 4.20pm)
