Last day to register for WP's Advisor Connect session on ETFs

There’s only one day left to register for Wealth Professional’s Advisor Connect virtual roundtable session, “Disruption, Innovation & Opportunities: The Future of ETFs.”

A free-for-advisors event, this webinar aims to give wealth professionals a from-the-source perspective on the latest thinking and trends driving the ETF industry.

To give a taste of what’s to come, Wealth Professional posed some choice questions to Ahmed Farooq, Senior Vice President, Head of Retail ETF Distribution at Franklin Templeton Canada, who’ll be among the experts at the roundtable:

WP: Can you talk about some challenges that the current market environment has created for ETF firms?

Ahmed Farooq: It’s a challenging time for all ETF issuers. Market sentiment can change on a whim. Inflation and rising interest rates have been an ongoing problem and may continue to persist till year end. Advisors have been hesitant in making any changes to their models or portfolios since they have already incurred losses in both equities and fixed income that they are hoping to climb out of.

Yet, this has shown an opportunity for early tax loss harvesting and being able to shuffle their portfolio into assets suited for this environment. We offer a wide range of ETFs suitable for a volatile and inflationary market. Those include the Franklin ClearBridge Sustainable Global Infrastructure Income Active ETF (FCII), which invests in global listed infrastructure companies that can protect during times of inflation and rising interest rates.

WP: Why is it important for advisors to stay updated on developments in the ETF space?

Farooq: I think it’s very important. The Canadian ETF space continues to grow and develop innovative products, but also provides overall asset flow trend information, in terms of where money is moving. ETF flows are always a good indicator of where institutional flows are heading or where advisor sentiment is heading.

What do you look forward to most from the upcoming AdvisorConnect ETFs session with Wealth Professional next week?

Farooq: I’m excited to reconnect with industry friends to have a good debate and discussion on the future of ETFs.

Hosted by James Burton, the webinar will also feature market views from:
