HSBC Bank Canada welcomes new unit head

Industry veteran chosen to take the helm at one of the bank's major divisions

HSBC Bank Canada has announced the appointment of Larry Tomei to the position of executive vice president and head of retail banking and wealth management. Tomei’s predecessor, Betty Miao, has accepted a new role with HSBC in Asia.

“Our major investment in digitization and branch updates for our retail banking and wealth management business is a sign of our commitment to serving Canadians and growing in this market,” said HSBC Bank President and CEO Sandra Stuart. “We are extremely pleased to have Larry joining our team to help lead these important changes.”

Tomei earned his industry stripes over a 22-year career with CIBC. He has worked in increasingly senior roles, including leading national sales and service for retail distribution, private wealth management, and mutual funds. His stint with CIBC has allowed him to cultivate experience in retail banking, business banking, and mass affluent and Asian banking. He was named among Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2009 by The Caldwell Partners, and was most recently a senior vice president at CIBC, heading up the President’s Choice Financial business.

“In this very competitive environment, as customer expectations continue to rise, his depth of experience in Canadian retail and wealth management with an emphasis on service will be valuable in driving our efforts to make the business simpler, faster, and more efficient for our customers,” said Stuart.
