​Income inequality narrows… very slightly

New figures from Statistics Canada show that the country’s top earners received slightly less in 2012.

New figures from Statistics Canada show that the country’s top earners received slightly less in 2012. The top 1 per cent of earners took 10.3 per cent of all income in the year; down from 10.6 per cent in the previous year. In the same period the top 1 per cent in the US took 19.3 per cent of all income. The analysis of incomes for 2006-2012 also shows that for the first time in 30 years the bottom 90 per cent of earners received a greater share of the income; 65.1 per cent in 2012 up from 63.9 per cent in 2006.
