Regulator appoints new head of enforcement

A longtime litigator has been selected as the regulator’s new director of enforcement

In an August 23 release, the BCSC announced the appointment of Douglas Muir as director of enforcement effective September 7.

Muir has long and extensive experience in litigation. His early career includes a stint as an associate at Bolton and Muldoon, after which he worked for six years as litigation counsel with Farris.

He joined the BCSC in 2004, spending seven years as litigation counsel in the Litigation group of BCSC's Enforcement Division, then taking on the role of associate general counsel in the Office of the Chair, where he provided expert legal advice on various matters including administrative law procedures and freedom of information.

"Doug's deep understanding of securities and administrative law, and broad regulatory experience make him uniquely qualified to bring strategic leadership to our critical enforcement efforts," said BCSC Chair and CEO Brenda Leong.  "I welcome Doug to our senior management team and look forward to working with him to continue to enhance our enforcement capabilities."
