Don’t Dodge Spending Says Former Canadian Bank Chief

A former governor of the Bank of Canada, David Dodge, says that governments shouldn’t be preoccupied with cutting spending to balance the budget. As governor during the good times at the start of the century, Mr Dodge is well respected, and says that spending on infrastructure to boost the economy should be a priority, and although he recommends getting deficits to become an ever decreasing share of GDP, aiming to hit zero wasn’t the best strategy.
