Canada’s economy was better-than-expected in January The economy declined by 0.1 per cent in January with the poor weather and oil prices hindering growth. However, although decline is never good, it was at least better than the 0.2 per cent drop that had been expected. Services were in decline by 0.3 per cent while goods grew by the same margin. Recent projections by the Bank of Canada were for weakness in the first quarter with improvement to follow.
