Shell’s plan to begin drilling for oil in the Arctic has been described as “risky” by the former head of BP. Lord Browne told the BBC that Shell is risking its reputation and huge costs and said that he was “never been a great supporter of right-on-the-margin development, partly because of the cost.” Shell has started preliminary drilling in the Chukchi Sea and its CEO Ben van Buerden says he went on a “personal journey” before deciding that the risk was containable.
