Tangerine entered the banking scene in 1997 as ING DIRECT, then was rebranded as Tangerine after it was acquired by Scotiabank in 2012. As a subsidiary of The Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank), Tangerine benefits from the robust backing of one of Canada's leading financial institutions.

Gillian Riley was appointed President and CEO of Tangerine in 2018. Her entire 30-year career has been with the Scotiabank group, having first joined the company as Vice President for Mortgages in 1994.   

Riley’s leadership is marked by a focus on innovation and client satisfaction. Under her guidance, Tangerine has continued to excel in delivering exceptional banking experiences. 

A graduate of Western University with a degree in Economics, Riley also holds an MBA from the University of Hartford. She was likewise part of the Executive Education cohort at Harvard Business School.
