Scotia enters ETF fray

Scotia global asset management has launched a suite of single-asset class ETF portfolios on the TSX.

With multi-manager, multi-discipline diversification, the Scotia Strategic ETF portfolios include the Scotia Strategic Fixed Income ETF Portfolio (SFIX), Scotia Strategic Canadian Equity ETF Portfolio (SCAD), Scotia Strategic U.S. Equity ETF Portfolio (SUSA), and Scotia Strategic International ETF Portfolio (SINT).

The new offerings are structured as ETF-on-ETF portfolios, with underlying ETFs that are screened and chosen from a broad universe of index-tracking, factor-based, and actively managed ETFs from Canadian and US providers. The portfolios come with management fees ranging from 0.45% to 0.6%; the portfolio management fees include the management fees of all underlying ETFs, and no premiums are charged for foreign equity mandates.

“Canadian investors have long entrusted us with their life savings across a wide spectrum of investment solutions,” said Glen Gowland, senior vice-president and head, Asset Management at Scotiabank. “These new ETF Portfolios will help us more fully serve our diverse client base with a level of flexibility not previously available in the marketplace.”

The ETF portfolios are managed by 1832 Asset Management and sub-advised by BlackRock Asset Management Canada Limited.
