The Manulife Multifactor Developed International Index ETF is invested in developed markets outside of the US and Canada.

The ETFs track specialized indices developed by Dimensional, a multifactor indexing pioneer. A proprietary Index Memory technique lets Dimensional implement their multifactor strategies into indices that could be passively managed.

“Decades of academic research … have found that in equity markets, relative performance among stocks largely depends on company size, relative price, and profitability,” said Dimensional Co-CEO Eduardo Repetto. “We have worked with Manulife to construct indexes that the ETFs seek to track which emphasize and balance those factors while managing investment costs.”

According to Manulife Investments Bernard Letendre, his firm’s strategy was to identify exceptional managers that provide investors with value-added products.

“We took our time entering the ETF market to ensure we had a great value proposition for our clients and we believe we achieved this with this initial lineup of ETFs,” Letendre said.
