The Toronto Stock Exchange saw a rebound Tuesday as news of fresh stimulus from Beijing gave a welcome boost to markets following the global sell-off in the previous session.

The news came after the close of Asian markets and a 7.6 per cent slump for Shanghai’s Composite Index.

European markets reacted to the news with positivity and ended their session 4 per cent higher.

Wall Street though failed to see a lift in sentiment with the Dow, S&P500 and Nasdaq all closing lower; analysts say it will take longer for the caution to dissipate.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index closed up 98.19 (0.75 per cent)
The Dow Jones closed down 204.91 (1.29 per cent)
Oil is trending higher (Brent $42.97, WTI $38.92 at 4.15pm)
Gold is trending lower (1139.30 at 4.15pm)
The loonie is valued at U$0.7495
