Tuesday saw the Toronto Stock Exchange close higher as all major sectors advanced with the exception of minerals. As almost all world markets got back to work there were gains in most as investors forecast the effect of Friday’s weaker US jobs data would have on interest rates; the consensus is that the Fed will not be in a hurry for an increase. Wall Street gained for a time but finished lower as the markets weighed a stronger greenback and higher oil prices.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index closed up 88.19 (0.58 per cent)
The NYSE closed lower
Oil is trending higher (Brent $59.04, WTI $53.85 at 4.15pm)
