Resources lead gains for TSX

Price gains for oil, gold and other resources has given the Toronto Stock Exchange’s main index a triple-digit gain Monday.

Price gains for oil, gold and other resources has given the Toronto Stock Exchange’s main index a triple-digit gain Monday. Financials especially banks and insurance companies also benefitted from the stronger resources sectors. Analysts expect more volatility ahead though.

Wall Street also advanced, again boosted by energy stocks. Europe tracked New York and the oil prices to close higher. Asian markets were mixed as Shanghai outperformed its peers amid caution over China’s economy.

The S&P/TSX Composite Index closed up 163.7 (1.14 per cent)
The NYSE closed higher (Dow up 241.79 / 1.39 per cent)
Oil is trending higher (Brent $50.24, WTI $44.83 at 5.45pm)
Gold is trending higher.
The loonie is valued at U$0.7686
