While the growth of Black Friday and Cyber Monday is clear with Canada picking up some of the slack from the US, Boxing Day is still part of an important spending tradition here. Experts say that although the earlier dates are popular, especially with those looking for Christmas present bargains, net sales are roughly stable and the promotional days have merely extended the sale season. Boxing Day is less about buying for others and more about spending those gift cards and cash received the day before. A recent survey by a cash back shopping site shows that 40 per cent of Canadians intend to shop this Friday with clothes and electronics topping the spending.
