Blackberry is pinning its hopes on the vast Chinese smartphone market. Chief Executive John Chen announced today that the company has been in talks with China’s two largest smartphone manufacturers, Xiaomi and Lenovo; Chen is in Beijing for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO Summit. Blackberry’s technology including security features has attracted much interest in China and Chen hopes to be able to form partnerships in the country. The refocused Blackberry is reviving its fortunes under Chen and expects to break even by the end of the year. Shares rose 6 per cent during the day.
