A new agreement between Canada and the U.S., announced Wednesday, exempts key accounts from a new U.S. tax law set to come into effect globally on July 1.

    Although this new agreement is good for the financial institutions it makes no difference for those individuals who are US citizens living in Canada and we all need to make sure that this news does not confuse them. They will still have to report all accounts on the FBAR even if their bank doesn't report the information to the CRA
