The Canada-EU trade deal, which has been previously described as a “gold standard” agreement, is facing resistance from several fronts

CETA is good for the EU, I question it from the Canadians perspective, however. It has free access for goods, but not services. What is Canada going to gain from this? A larger trade deficit most likely, and a flood of German cars. Not to mention the exportation of EU rules and regulations (which the EU has a habit of doing in its deals). The deal seems rubbish, Canada should scrap it after 'bending backwards' over it. The EU isn't a free-trading bloc. It's a burdensome regulatory behemoth that is hell-bent on influencing other nations through wacky policies (since it's incompetent in almost every other area (i.e. it doesn't have the hard powers that the US has).
