Warren Buffett says practice of sharing earnings guidance with Wall Street can distort management’s priorities

Agree 110%. Whether guilty of sandbagging, in order to post exact numbers and provide orderly earnings or stealing from Peter to pay Paul in order to make this quarter's projected earnings, it still amounts to financial trickery. It hardly matters whether the culprit is GE or some lesser company which is just happy to have "qualified" for coverage by analysts. We have somehow been sold the idea all companies should provide an orderly march up a graph when, in the real world, the ebb and flow of business (and resulting inefficiencies) are what provides constant opportunity.
