WP sat down with advisor Samuel Waxman to get his view on the pressures placed on Canadian advisors

The CSA's witchhunt on embedded commissions is an assault on the independent advisor/planner, making it more difficult for new independents to start up and for intermediate's to recoup cost from earlier lean years. It will end up with more people entering the advisor workforce through the banks and staying there. So not only will investors have less choice in how they compensate for advise, they'll have less guidance and more product shoved down their throat! I realize there are some in the independent channel that push product and provide little value, like the bank, but banning embedded fees is a surefire to ensure all Canadians are underserviced at the lower and mid-tier levels by squeezing the independents who work with them.
