With more wealthy clients turning to ETFs, the active-versus-passive debate gets reignited

I think HNW tend to be more interested in their money and look for value. If active was best value thats what they would do. Time and again SPIVA scorec card shows us managers cant consistently beat the market . Most advisors in Canada ( not ALL ) have some allegiance to a bank , firm or dealer and push own brand product so you have even less chance of finding the winner in that limited selection.
I agree buying the TSX is overweight banks and energy so can be more volatile maybe than the SP500. Go buy the 10 sector ETfs then in equal proportions . Rebalance once a year.
The average advisor age is 55 plus , its not easy to admit you may have been wrong your whole working career and your dealer / banks doesnt want you to ask too many questions
