OSC appoints new executive director

OSC veteran Leslie Byberg has assumed top executive director and chief admin roles

The Ontario Securities Commission has a new executive director and chief administration officer. Leslie Byberg will be assuming both roles, effective immediately, announced OSC Chair and CEO Maureen Jenson.

It’s one of several successive positions Byberg has held at the OSC. Prior to her appointment, she has taken a hands-on approach as director of the OSC’s Strategy and Operations Branch. In addition to her experience in business planning, policy prioritization and risk management processes, Byberg also oversaw the first review of the Canadian fixed income market, as well as the OSC’s mystery shop research into retail investment advice processes.

Jenson says Byberg’s extensive experience within the Commission and background in markets has primed her to be the perfect candidate for the position.

“Leslie Byberg is a regulatory leader with over twenty years of experience in the capital markets and significant securities expertise,” Jensen stated. “Having worked alongside Leslie for many years, I’ve appreciated her strong commitment to our mandate as well as her deep understanding of our regulatory and operational work. I look forward to working in partnership as we move forward with efforts to modernize capital markets regulation while promoting safe, fair and efficient markets in Ontario.”
