Fidelity launches fund focused on innovators
Fidelity Investments Canada has launched its Fidelity Global Innovators Class, an equity-strategy fund that lets Canadian investors access innovative and disruptive companies from around the world, regardless of their market capitalization.

“We live in a time of accelerating change,” said Rob Strickland, president of Fidelity Investments Canada. “Disruptive innovations, such as artificial intelligence, blockchain and advances in genomics, are transforming the global economy and fundamentally changing the investment landscape.”

The fund will be managed by Fidelity portfolio manager Mark Schmehl, who has covered a wide range of industries including healthcare, utilities, mining, transportation, industrials, insurance, and real estate. He’s run Fidelity’s Canadian Disciplined Equity Fund, as well as the Fidelity Select Materials Fund for US investors; currently, he manages the Fidelity Canadian Growth Company Fund and Fidelity Special Situations Fund.

“Given his experience with investing in innovative companies, I believe Mark is well-positioned to take advantage of these trends and seek to help Canadian investors meet their long-term financial goals,” Strickland said.

The Fidelity Global Innovators Class will also be available in a currency-neutral version. Currency-neutral versions are also planned for the Fidelity Event Driven Opportunities Fund, the Fidelity Global Concentrated Equity Fund, and the Fidelity International Concentrated Equity Fund.
