Fun Friday Fact: Lessons in estate planning from Casey Kasem

When the beloved list-reader went missing a lesson in estate-planning was at hand.

Advocis Vancouver tweeted a great link yesterday to a story about "the Five Mistakes the beloved voice Casey Kasim made."

Devotees of pop music hit-lists were delivered to a state of tragic disharmony last month when it was reported that Kemal Amin "Casey" Kasem, golden throat of Saturday morning hit-list reading, had been declared missing. According to his children his wife had taken the barely-conscious Kasem and disappeared with the beloved script-reader. The dispute represented the end of a long and bitter battle over the decaying body of Kasem.

Suffering from Parkinson's disease Kasem`s second wife Jean had prevented his children from seeing Kasem. Last October the kids protested in front of the Kasem home before they sought conservatorship of their father. In early May Kasem was taken from his home by his wife. A few days late the kids were granted temporary conservatorship over their father and the court ordered an investigation into Kasem's whereabouts. He was eventually found in Washington state. The family placed Kasem on "end-of-life" measures before he died June 15 of this year.

As absurd as the story is, there are important lessons to be learned about proper estate planning. An explanation is found here
