OSC imposes $2.7 million penalties on inside traders

Mitchell Finkelstein and others have been hit with more than $2.7 million in fines from the Ontario Securities Commission

Mitchell Finkelstein and others have been hit with more than $2.7 million in fines from the Ontario Securities Commission. The former Bay Street lawyer and four others have also been given trading bans for ten years. The Globe and Mail reports that Finkelstein has already lost his career as a result of the insider trading of which he was convicted earlier this year. The penalties imposed were, the OSC said, to ensure that he was not in a position to adversely affect the capital markets and to send a warning to others as a deterrent.
