Parents are increasingly ignoring the guidance of their advisors for love of hockey and in hopes their children will someday make the NHL

From experience, if your child plays rep hockey $1000 is way too low. Try $3000-$5000+ / season depending on the my opinion, as with most things, balance is key between Education "IQ" and developing other skills through activities and sports "EQ".

I have to agree with Mr. Clarke, those figures are somewhat understated. House league hockey in many Canadian centres is topping the $1,000 mark. Travel/competitive sports are running parents closer to $10,000 / child / season when all factors are considered - all in pursuit of the major league dream.
